Agustin Nicolás Rivero's practice unfolds at the threshold between art and craft, where textile becomes a site of philosophical and material exploration. Rooted in over two decades of engagement with textile processes. Through design, collaboration with artisans, and material research. His work investigates time as a living material, capable of accumulating memory, fragility, and resistance.
Working across textile, drawing, and sculpture, he understands these not as separate disciplines, but as interconnected ways of thinking through material. Beginning from minimal gestures such as knotting felting, and drawing, his practice constructs surfaces and environments that condense tensions: between the ephemeral and the lasting, between the intimate and the collective. This long-term engagement with textile is inseparable from his role as founder and creative director of A NEW CROSS, a Bogotá-based practice conceived as a space for material exploration, experimentation, and collaboration. Developed over more than a decade in close dialogue with artisan communities, this work has shaped his understanding of textile not simply as a medium, but as a system of knowledge; embodied, collective, and deeply tied to time, process, and territory. Rather than existing as a separate field, this practice forms a continuous foundation for his artistic work, sustaining an investigation into the body, memory, absence, and fragility through processes of repetition and accumulation.
His work has been presented in institutional contexts such as the Museum of Modern Art of Medellin (MAMM), alongside solo exhibitions in cultural spaces including Museo Casa Lleras. He has also exhibited in galleries nationally and internationally, situating his practice within a broader dialogue between material exploration and spatial installation.
