Antonio Pichillá

The Divine in the Encounter
2023
In Antonio Pichillá's brochure, Emiliano Valdes' "The Divine in the Encounter" curatorial text profoundly overviews Pichillás's artistic trajectory and the meaning and symbolism behind his work. Emiliano explains how Pichillá's work "invites us to immerse ourselves in their resistance against colonialism but also to enter a meeting place, a possibility of negotiation and healing between the cultures that inhabit present-day Guatemala, especially within the 'Ladino' tradition from whose artistic logic of western heritage Pichillá has conceived his own creative and transcultural vision." In the brochure, along with the curatorial text and a heartfelt description by the artist are two iconic images of his artwork, and an exceptional one that shows his parents standing in front of his monumental 16 ft textile "Viento" (2021).
