Plato expressed himself: “Now I realize how precious this science of calculation is and how useful to the object that we propose when it is studied in itself (…), consequently, geometry, attracts the soul towards the truth, forms in it a deep philosophical spirit and forces it to direct its gaze upwards..." Thus, the Colombian Master Jorge Riveros finds inspiration in the rigor of geometry significantly transformed through imagination, creativity, abstraction , and precision in works that broaden the horizons of geometric abstraction in the 21st century. His 7 decades of continuous creativity exists from his times as a student in the classrooms of the National University in Bogotá through the learning methodologies in Spain and Germany, and the years of formative teaching that he taught at the same university to countless students who remember him with a fondness and deep admiration demosntrating it with their dedication to great manifestos in contemporary art. Added to these years of research, work, and production are an extraordinary collection of works that attest to a dedication that goes beyond art and life itself. The geometry expressed in art is complex, it requires knowledge of a multiplicity of disciplines, laws of form, light, color, and fundamentally of a mathematics that interacts between the abstract and the concrete. These are years of research, of creations that are incessantly debated between trials and errors until one day, inadvertently, the precise balance is reached in which the abstraction manifested within the complexity of geometry is expressed with the naturalness of nature. Each stroke, texture, composition and shape breathe from the hand directed equally by both hemispheres, the objective and analytical in unison parallel to the subjective and intuitive. Easy to say. Art always meets objectives, and in the multidisciplinary works of master Jorge Riveros, the interactions between the abstract, the concrete, and the three-dimensional, expand our limits of perception and invite us to reflect on the origins and scope of geometry, on its universality as language and its ability to evoke the sublime and arouse wonder in art. His work is symbolic, cryptic messages of light, shape, and color; a legacy to the continuity of abstraction that registers a universal referent through each and every one of his works.
