Rigorous research and endless hours of dedication led the curatorial efforts of Rodrigo Gutiérrez to evolve the fantastic exhibition "Antes de América" at Fundación Juan March in Madrid that ended last Sunday. Iconic works that highlighted the influence of ancestral art in Latin American Modernism were of remarkable note: Joaquín Torres Garcia's "Pachamama," Joseph Albers' "Tenayuca" photos, Annie Albers' "Study for Camino Real," Elsa Gramcko's "Takehi," Emilia Rodriguez Larrain's "Mágica Mamá Pacha," and among the extensive collective documents, the primordial sketches of Jorge Riveros influenced by pre-Colombian iconography.
