We have the honor to present our collective exhibition titled “Modernisms: Simultaneously and Systematically,” an unpublished exhibition that, under the curatorship of the artist Lucio Celis reflects on a contemporaneity conceived more than six decades ago and represented in the works of artists Felipe Arturo, Elvira Celis Cepero, Lorena Espitia, Edgar Guzmanruiz, Haruhi Hiyashi, Federico Ovalles, Luis F. Ramírez, Henry Salazar and Lucio Celis himself.
Curatorially conceived in 1959 under uncertain speculation of what the future would hold, Lucio Celis planned a collective exhibition projected to take place in the year 2024. Based on his observations of the world of his time and debating the possible technological scope for the next 65 years, Celis projected a non-linear but cyclical timeline. Under this theory, typical of his not-so-optimistic thinking, he established specific premises for the realization of his future exhibition. Within the established guidelines, the following stand out: “The architecture of the exhibition will consist of a diagonal panel that crosses the rectangular exhibition hall, more than 20 meters, a line that symbolizes progress but that will only allow the viewer to reach a blind spot and return to the place from where they started.” And so we are proud to give rise to this extraordinary and novel exhibition conceived more than 60 years ago in which the past and the future converge in parallel in a single space.
