The exhibition Four Rooms assembles a suite of four distinct curatorial vignettes that showcase the diversity, historical depth, and global scope of ICA Miami’s permanent collection, with a particular focus on its recent acquisitions and the ongoing dialogue between newly commissioned works and pieces from the last fifty years. Each gallery is orchestrated by a different curator to explore a distinct thematic realm: Donna Honarpisheh (Associate Curator, Art + Research) helms Spirit Matter, which features diverse material experimentations that transform matter into portals of spiritual encounter; Gean Moreno (Director, Art + Research Center) curates an exhibition dedicated to grisaille, using black-and-white photography and subtle performative gestures to meditate on the body, memory, and identity; Associate Curator Amanda Morgan brings together emotionally charged domestic objects and built environments that reflect on intimacy and everyday spaces without directly depicting the human form; and finally, Alex Gartenfeld (Artistic Director) highlights a concise survey of the museum’s wide-ranging minimalist examples, anchored by a recent major acquisition of work by Miriam Schapiro.
