Proyecto C

C
Contemporary drawing from Colombia and Cuba.

Drawing is one of the most versatile forms of expression in the vast universe of art. Defined as the technique of creating figures or images through lines, this medium has transcended its traditional use to become a platform for innovation and reflection. In this exploration, Project C is presented as a bold initiative that unites artists from Colombia and Cuba, countries with rich cultural and artistic traditions. Montenegro Art Projects (MAP) has worked with these countries for more than a decade, and their historical significance adds depth to the language of drawing.
Graphite, whose molecular formula is C, becomes a symbol of connection and creativity. This mineral, baptized by the German mineralogist A.G. Werner in the 18th century, comes from the Greek term "graphene," which means to write. Thus, Project C uses graphite as a common thread that links the works of various artists who reimagine the potential of drawing in the contemporary context through points, lines, planes, and textures.
C presents a conceptual and formal variety that ranges from figurative language to abstraction. This project not only redefines drawing as a sketch but also emancipates it towards an aesthetic diversity characteristic of these times. C also seeks connections between the artistic motives of the participants, demonstrating that, beyond geographical distances, common conceptual elements unite them.
