The Inmersos series redefines the symbolic function of the commemorative bust in public space. Rather than focusing solely on the visible figure, Miler Lagos directs attention to the pedestal: he turns it into an extension of the body, a volume that suggests the continuity of the figure submerged within the base.
In Esperanza Compartida, as in other works from the series, the pedestal ceases to be a mere support and acquires an active sculptural dimension: it becomes a desk, a lectern, a kneeler— a scenography for memory. The intervention suggests that the bust is not incomplete, but rather that the rest of the body remains immersed in the material.
Inmersos desacralizes the traditional statue and reinterprets it through a more corporeal and sensitive lens. The human figure is presented as a contained whole, evoking the classical idea that the sculpture already inhabits the block: one must simply remove what is excess.
