Arqueología del Deseo is a visual art proposal that seeks to harness the physical qualities of candies to create a classification system similar to that used for minerals considered precious stones. The project embodies a reflection on the impulses that drive desire — the yearning to consume or to possess.
This is the first stage of a broader project aimed at identifying and classifying both artisanal and industrial candies from various regions, whose appearance or form bears a resemblance to precious gems or, in some cases, to specific minerals.
Although in practical and scientific terms precious stones possess special attributes beyond their beauty — particularly in the case of diamonds — the reason for their cultural transcendence over time remains unclear. Hardness, transparency, brilliance, and hue are among the criteria considered in their valuation, yet fundamentally, the desire to possess them arises from the fascination their rarity provokes
