Small assemblage of objects and sounds that evokes the radiophonic sphere and its potential as archive and memory. Grooves and voices extracted from the oldest phonographic material in the Señal Memoria –Fonoteca RTVC– archive, taken from discs recorded in the 1940s and belonging to various programs such as radiotheater, radionovelas, reports, tributes, and documentaries. Eloquent silences referring to historical absence or non-memory.
Through the sonic dialogue between silences, repetitions, and agglomerations, concepts emerge such as the fixation of sound onto physical supports, the loop or closed groove of the record, the sonic texture of scratch produced by wear, abrasion, and the physical nature of analog devices, and the idea of accumulation inherent to archives. Surcos, voces, silencios is a simple homage to these foundational principles of musique concrète, invented in 1948 within the technological, poiétic, and sensorial context of radio.
