Series of sculptures in printed paper
In this series, Miler Lagos moves away from the religious imagery present in other works of Cimiento to explore the relationship between humans and nature from an everyday perspective. The sculptures are carved from stacks of paper that reproduce woodcuts from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo by the Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige, made in the mid-19th century.
These printed images record the landscape along the Sumida River, capturing simple scenes of daily life and harmonious coexistence with the environment. The work contrasts the visual
lightness of these scenes with the physical density of the accumulated paper: thousands of sheets that, when carved, take the shape of a trunk. The final volume evokes the body of a tree, reminding us that every printed image is, at its core, made from living matter.
