Juan Iribarren (Caracas, 1956) is an artist whose work proposes a critical reflection on modern art in two of its traditions: the abstract-geometric, which prioritizes structures and compositional games, and the atmospheric and gestural, which investigates light and its different visual effects. He currently lives and works in New York City.
Through painting, drawing, and photography, Iribarren explores how these traditions can interconnect and transform each other, giving rise to sensual, fertile images in which reticular forms rhythmically incarnate in multiple tonal chords.
Color is the element that energizes and disrupts. The interaction of color and geometry transforms spatial structures. Iribarren's works present and translate places modulated by light based on detailed observations of his environment and the spaces he inhabits.
Iribarren has had various individual exhibitions in cities such as New York, Caras, and São Paulo and has participated in group exhibitions in spaces in Latin America, the United States, and Europe.
