Waltercio Caldas (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1946) is a Brazilian sculptor, designer, and graphic artist. His work is linked to Neoconcretism, breaking with the scientific aspect of art.
He studied art at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. Through his work, Caldas explores perception using mysterious, transparent, and minimalist sculptures. He moved to New York in 1985, where he began introducing non-transparent materials into his sculptures.
His work investigates the border between what exists and what we still need to see. Between what we can intuit or guess, between what is present and what is not apparent. The perception of space, scale, aesthetics, and visual experience are central issues in his work.
Caldas has exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belgium, Spain, Holland, and the United States. He also received the art prize from the National Museum of Brasilia.
